MEET OUR TEAM
The Let's Care Collective works with the Department of Opportunities and Social Development to positively impact the lives of youth in care and youth transitioning out of care. This work has been led by a Lived Experience Team (LET) and done in collaboration with our Nova Scotia government partners. We have created and facilitated workshops, consulted on programs and projects and developed systems change programs for government employees. All of this work has been done while prioritizing the well being of the lived experience team.
THE LET
The LET is a group of young adults who have had experience of the care system in Nova Scotia. Their experience with the system is varied: adoption, foster care, temporary and permanent care, group homes and placements with extended family. Currently their ages range from 23-33, and they hold multiple and intersecting identities, Mi'kmaq, African Nova Scotian, Queer, Trans, neuro divergent and differently abled. They are parents, poets, gardeners, gamers, musicians, visual artists, entrepreneurs, community leaders and animal lovers. The LET spans many interests and identities and although their personal histories differ and sometimes conflict, they are all committed to sharing to improve the experiences of those who are currently and impacted by the “Care System”. They share their stories with generosity, fierce honesty and dedication to positive change.
LEAD TEAM
The LET is supported by a Lead Team made up of the Director, Strategy & Communications Lead, and Youth Workers. This team is responsible for building the organization, maintaining good relationships with our partners and collaborators and engaging the LET to develop their skills and offerings.
OUR PARTNERS
The Let’s Care Collective prioritized collaborative and meaningful relationships throughout the work. In our current phase of work we are partnered with Community Partner, the East Preston Family Resource Centre and Provincial Government partners, Department of Opportunities and Social Development and Executive Council Office.
