One Small Thing

(2024-2025)

What if we could accomplish one small thing that had a big impact on youth in care? This program supports NS government employees to tackle a feasible and inspiring task that has the potential for change. The Let’s Care Collective has designed and facilitated a one year program for a cohort of participants from across government departments to team up, pitch their ideas and work on them with the expertise of the LET.

In collaboration with the Office of Executive Council, The Collective came up with the concept of One Small Thing, a process to support many small actions that impact the lives of children and youth. The goal is to demonstrate the potential of departments working with the Collective to make small, iterative changes that result in progress towards our shared goal of human-centered integrated services. Examples of One Small Thing could include adapting current training, redrafting a policy, supporting the design of a new service, or anything that is realistic and achievable. This process was created as a follow up to the Learning Journey that The Collective hosted in 2022-2023. The Learning Journey produced big ideas and lots of conversation and connections. The LET and government participants were inspired to continue this momentum and direct it towards tangible actions.
